Magical Maths
Magical Maths
In Te Ngahere we have been doing different types of maths activities. I'm doing an activity called Circle Links. What we have to do is find the measurements for circular objects. For example a bottle we have to measure the circumference which is the outer rim and then when we do that we have to measure the diameter which is directly across the middle and it normally would be half of the circumference if it was 12 cm it would most likely be 6 cm but that doesn't happen all the time. We also have to learn about Pi which is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Ki O Rahi
P.E Drills
The last few weeks Te Ngahere has been doing P.E drills which is to teach us to play and get used to different games, for example, we are learning how to play Ki O Rahi which is just like Rippa rugby for us Maoris. Ki o Rahi Games are 5 minute quarters with an immediate change at quarter time and a 2-minute break at half time. The sport is non-contact but players wear a belt holding two velcro tags around their waist. It is really fun to play and I am learning a lot from these drills.

Te Reo
In Te Ngahere the last few weeks we have been learning Te Reo Maori and how to pronounce and say Maori words/Phrases. For example(They Learnt to play soccer) we would have to use a Maori dictionary to find the Maori words for this sentence and that would be (I Ako Ratou ki te Mahi Poihau) it has been a rough journey to find the right meanings but other than that it was fun to do and say.

Kia ora this week in Te Ngahere my group and I have been learning how to find equivalent fractions. Equivalent fractions are numbers that look different but equal the same answer for example ⅕ is the same as 2/10, because to get your answer you either divide or multiply. What you do to the top number you have to do to the bottom number. It is really easy to do even if I get stuck sometimes but when you get the hang of it you will be able to solve them more efficiently. Have you done equivalent fractions before?
